Welcome to the world of Stepdad

Wood panelling. Wafts of smoke.
Sipping privilege on the rocks.
Pressed suits. Stacks of Playboy.
Bragging about expensive stereos.
Starched shirtwaists. Satin slips.
Huffing the latest household chemicals.

Each collage is
one-of-a-kind and cut by hand
from physical mid-century magazines ,
with zero digital sourcing or editing.

Stepdad Collages is a series of analog collages by Marissa A. Ross, created using original mid-century magazines, scissors, and glue. Or maybe tape. Whatever it takes. Each piece is composed by hand, exploring themes of gender, nostalgia, and power through the imagery of a carefully constructed American past. Ross is a writer and artist based in Los Angeles.
